Himanthri Weerawardhena is a Ph.D. Candidate in Clinical Psychology at the University of Calgary, and she is currently completing her Pre-Doctoral Residency at the Psychological & Counselling Services Group. She holds an MSc in Clinical Psychology from the University of Calgary, as well as Bachelor of Science (Honours) degrees in both Psychology and Zoology.
Himanthri’s dissertation research focuses on Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) across the adult lifespan, with a particular interest in strengths and resilience of individuals with ADHD. Her doctoral work explores how emotion regulation, coping strategies, and executive functioning influence various functional outcomes in adults with ADHD.
Clinically, Himanthri has experience supporting children, youth, and adults through assessment and intervention. She takes a collaborative, client-centered approach to therapy, drawing primarily from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy while integrating elements of Acceptance and Commitment therapy, psychodynamic therapy, and solution-focused approaches. She has provided long-term therapy for adults with challenges such as grief, anxiety, and mood disorders, and has conducted comprehensive psychological and neuropsychological assessments related to workplace injuries and psychiatric diagnoses. She is committed to culturally responsive care and has had the privilege of providing long-term integrative therapy to Black Calgarians through a specialized initiative at the University of Calgary Clinical Psychology Clinic.
