Trinda Penniston is a Doctoral Student in Clinical Psychology at Queen’s University. She has worked under the supervision of registered Clinical Psychologists in a variety of settings, including private practice, hospital, and university clinics. Trinda has clinical experience treating women with sexual difficulties/dysfunction, couples experiencing relationship distress, adults with anxiety, depression, insomnia, PTSD, ASD, and ADHD, and she has provided psycho-educational assessments to youth and forensic assessments to youth and adults in contact with the criminal justice system. She has also worked extensively in community organizations supporting children and youth living with type 1 diabetes, sexually exploited and at-risk youth, and women who have experienced sexual and gender-based violence.

Trinda believes in creating a safe and supportive environments for her clients, and is committed to them feeling heard, understood, and valued in their experiences. She is always striving to provide collaborative, non-judgemental care rooted in multicultural and intersectional frameworks, with the understanding that client concerns are impacted by their social and cultural environments. Her approach is evidence-based, and built on the philosophy that clients are the experts of their own experiences. She is trained in several treatment modalities, including Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Integrative Behavioural Couple’s Therapy (IBCT), and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), and frequently uses metaphors, humour, and other creative strategies to provide tailored, personalized care that help clients meet their treatment goals.

Outside of the clinic, Trinda enjoys dancing (salsa, swing), watching movies and plays in theatres, and adventuring to new restaurants to try different dishes.
